Hehe that will teach me to mumble wont it? I went in to go up a size with my earing today….. Ear lobe stretching! ouch!!
*cue wibbly memory leap back to when i was 14* 1988! eek hehe. I had one set of holes in my ears, my mum let me get them done when i was 8 or 9 but i always had trouble with them. I couldn’t wear certain types of jewellery as it made the holes really sore, and i always had little lumps which im guessing were scar tissue?? So anyways at 14 i decided to pierce myself haha!
Armed with a needle, hair grip, ear stud and some antiseptic i set about it. Wasn’t really that bad, made more noise than anything else, like polistyrene 🙂 Anyways after doing it i went out of my bedroom and totally forgot i still had my hair gripped back! Man did my mum go mental haha… i still have that hole today tho, plus i have never had any problems with it. So i would say piercing with a needle rather than a gun is best for my flesh 🙂

so i went into the shop where i have been going for the last month, to go up one size…im guessing the plain silver hoop i started with before the 1.2mm was the standard size that all earings come in? Then i went from the 1.2mm up to the 1.6mm and the last one was a 2mm… none of which were any problem. With the 2mm, the bloke said he might have to stretch it but it just slipped right through. Well i had been tugging on it haha. 🙂 So anyways i went in and said can i go up a size please which should of meant from the 2mm up to a 2.4mm or 10ga…..
The girl siad what size is the one in your ear, i said 2mm so ill want a 2.4mm please but she only heard the last bit. So when she had dug out the BCR [Ball closure ring] a shiney black one with pointy bits where it holds the ball in, and said this size ok? i just went yeah not even noticing the size! Dink likes shiney 🙂 🙂
I pop myself up on the bench thingy, and the girl does her thing with the antiseptic stuff, gets her pliar things out un clips the old silver one…mean while my friend Sar pipes up “are you having a bad day?” to the girl… we laughed about that one after of course…. but meanwhile shes got this stretching tool out that i haven’t seen. So yeah, the next thing i know the girl has pushed this through my earlobe, and ive turned my head to look at Sar with a look of OUCH! on my face haha. Its like a really bad burning sensation, let me put it this way, open your mouth really wide then jam your fingers inside and pull your mouth open even more 🙂 Or if u have had a baby its kinda the sharp ouch you get as the baby crowns haha.. but obviously in your ear! I was not expecting that. But yeah it was over in 30 seconds and my new jewelary is now in place.
I was told to salt water wash my ear twice a day, which after going up 2 gauges you really dont want to touch yer ear let alone get salt on it! It will calm down in a few days when my flesh has got over the shock, its surprizing how heavy this little piece of metal is. Anyways i decided to treat myself and ordered 20quids worth of earings, 2X 8ga UV Solid Plugs one in red and one in blue… 1x Vertebrae Tribal Pincher with Captive Bead Ring, same as a BCR but it has pieces cut out of it…1x Steel Flesh Tube… 1x Steel Stretching crescent and a pair of Ring Opening Pliers so i dont have to go back to the shop everytime i want my rings changed haha. *excited* its been ages since i treated me 🙂
Now i just have to be satisfied with have a 8ga slightly stretched lobe… hahaha *evil laugh*
Edit…on recieving my new 3.2mm or 8ga jewellery my new hole may even be a 6ga which is 4mm, or 3 gauges bigger than my original holes of…2mm…at the mo i really cant tell, but then i guess it depends where you get yourear rings from eh? need for it to heal so i can takethe current BCR out and measure it. I might even invest in some bigger rings! 🙂 hehe

Okay so I wanna go up to a 2G (at 8G atm) but I’m not sure how it’ll look if I ever decide I want to go back to a normal earring , will it be all saggy once I’m older?
I went from a normal gun peirced ear size to a 2 within about a month. I am using tapers it can be a little painful at times. But then end result is so worth it. I hope to eventually have 00s. Good luck everyone.
I know it was dumb but me and a group of friends all decided to guage our ears last night. all of us had our ears pierced but mine was an 18 everyone else was 16 gauge. everyone was getting 12 or 10 gauge tapers and was struggling to get them in and they were going through a bit of pain. well i wanted to be better than them so i bought a 10 taper and a 4 taper and i put the 10 in with no problem and then an hour later i did the 6. i guess my ears were just made to be stretched. BTW i have no pain at all and i barely did when i put it in.good luck getting to the size you want and tapers make it so much easier to go up sizes.
i pierced my ear with a normal ear ring and after 6 weeks with a normal ear ring i went and gauged my ear to an 8 gauge on my own
Nice blog! I’m currently at a 2 ga moving up to a 0 today. A good thing to try is putting antibacterial ointment on the taper when you size up. It helps your ear to adjust quicker and acts as a lubricant. A little salt water couldn’t hurt either =]
i started about three weeks ago just using random objects up to 2Ga and tapers from then on but haven’t had any issues i’m now 1/2 an inch. and cleaned it with alcohol rather than salt water.

I started with a two then went to a zero after 2 weeks. Then I skipped sizes and went to a 7/16 .after the 7/16 I waited a month to put in my 5/8s:) happy and loving my ears but want to go to 3/4s
well im getting into this gauging art its relly neat…. but i really dont know where to start?! I wanna start big enough but small enough to not allow my ears to sag when im older.. and i wont go over 0 cuz then theres “no point of return” … any help gaugers please?

I started out at 14, went to 6 within two weeks. got 4s…put them in then i borrowed from size 0 tapers in and shoved them through. Thats where i am now. it didnt really hurt…just kind of a tingling feeling.

i went from a normal ear size to a size guage 2.. it didn’t hurt. but i used the steel strectchers instead of going to a shop to get it done.

I got pierced at 1.6mm after that all healed when to 2.4mm then 3.2mm then (stupidly) 5mm (that burned for 4 days straight XD) then finally (for now) im at 6mm on my right ear
not to long ago got left 1pierced and thats at 3.2 mm atm 😀
i just put in a 2 in my ears from a 12 and it hurt like a son of a bitch
i just put a 00 in my ear.
i went from something about a cm smaller than a 0 to it.
it hurt :]
i went from nothing to 3mm
i dont think it hurt
now i have nice 14mm =)
any size going above a 10mm hurts like a motherfucker
I just got a pair of 8g I’m at 12g. I’m putting them in tommorow. I’m excited.
I’m at a 0 gauge now. The most painful was from a 2 to a 0, but i only waited a week so that might be why. The second most painful one was from a 18g to a 10g XD. I want to go to a 00g soon but my mom might not let me :(.
Im 16, my first piercing is a 2 gauge. i plan on going to a 0 whenever i get some money for a taper and a cool enough plug. ive been thinking that maybe i could just use a silicon plug, scrunch it up, and put it in to stretch to a 0…? My worst stretch was from 14 gauge to 10 gauge, but only because i didnt buy a 12. i know, bad choice.

Hello. Ha-ha. My name is Cassi. I’m 14 years old. About the age were you pierced you ears. And I’m a two gauge. I’ve been stretching my ears for a bit now. And I remember the most painful gauge difference was a twelve to a ten. But it only gets easier from there. Eight to a six, Or four to a two, So far have been the easiest. I’m going to buy my new zero gauge taper soon. I’m very excited. I have this gorgeous 0 gauge turquoise plug. Which obviously is black and blue,. I cannot wait to see it with my soon to be black and blue hair 😛 anyways. Just came to talk about gauging!

I’ve gone straight from nothing to a 3.2mm with my piercer. Have read loads of sites that say you shouldn’t, but I’ve not had a problem with it at all, though my ears found it a lot easier when doing it slowly as opposed to a sharp and fast method.
How come so many professionals seem to have so many conflicting ideas? IT’s so confusing!
hi sam…. gone up to a 6mm now 🙂 i guess your ears get used to it the bigger and more stretched they get. I did the last stretch myself and i hardly felt it. I dont think ill go much bigger than an 8mm i have small lobes and the 6mm looks quite large… plus my work doesnt like it. *grr* 🙂 lol
very nice, kind of funny, i have gone up from 1.4mm to 2.4mm to 3.2mm to 4mm to 6mm to 8mm to 10mm to 11.7mm then to 12mm in about 4 months… I am very stretchy so I can do a good 2 to 3 mm at a time.
